3rd Annual Emerging Artists Dance Conert
School Of Dance Presents Student Choreography
MIAMI, FL (October 5, 2009) – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Miami Dade College Kendall Campus will present two evenings of contemporary dance on October 23 and 24, 2009. The program of student choreographed works ranges from traditional West African dance to cutting edge American contemporary dance.
The featured choreographers and their respective works are: Malcom Barraza Deception of Honesty, Charles Jackson & Ashley Spence What’s Reality, Andrea Jonusas Awakening… Kerrie Simone Made Up My Mind, Julien Valme In the Left, and Brittany Williams Inner Love, the Prophet, and D’Joli.
Ms. Brittany Williams whose work will be featured in this showcase was a scholarship Fellow at the American Dance Festival 2009. She will be completing the Dance Associate program at Miami Dade College and continuing her studies in Trinidad and Tobago as an Artist in Residence with the world renowned Makeda Thomas and her Roots and Wings Movement. Ms. Williams caused a stir at the Miami Dade College 2008 The Art of Dance Concert with the presentation of her provocative work, We Did Not Hang Ourselves a contemporary modern dance piece exploring the history of lynching in America. Ms. Williams was also featured at the 2009 American College Dance Festival Southeastern Conference where she was invited to present Sisterhood in the Gala Performance.
Produced by Dance Department Coordinator, Michelle Grant-Murray, the Emerging Artist Dance Concert is a kinetic, high energy showcase for the community to see new artists and choreographers before they hit the national scene. Miami audiences will be wise to take advantage of seeing these rising young stars during their upward trajectory
The Emerging Artists Dance Concert performances are being held at McCarthy Theatre, Miami Dade College Kendall Campus, 11011 SW 104th Street, Miami, Florida 33176.
Performance times are as follows: Friday, October 23---11:00am matinee & 7:30pm evening performances and Saturday October 24 @ 7:30pm. Tickets for this event are $5.00 per person
