Community College Choir & Jazz Band Concert



The Miami Dade College Community College Choir is a major choral ensemble on campus that provides students with the opportunity to study and perform a variety of choral literature representing a wide variety of styles, historical periods, and languages.

The Miami Dade Jazz Band who has performed in Montreux, Switzerland; North Sea, Holland; Umbria, Italy; and toured Africa, Brazil and Mexico will perform a cross section of music: swing, rock, Latin, avant garde and fusion.

Come see the Community College Choir & Jazz Band perform on Tuesday, October 30th at 7:30 p.m. at the McCarthy Auditorium, Room 6120, at Miami Dade College, Kendall Campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Artistry in Rhythm



Enjoy an evening of Dance showcasing Miami’s most esteemed and prestigious young dance artist of Miami Dade College, Kendall Campus, Jubilation Dance Ensemble, as they weave in and out of the exuberance of sovereignty and epoch adventure of time. Artistry in Rhythm is a celebration of the unique cultural experience that preserves and enriches the diversity of South Florida culture.

Afua Hall, Michelle Grant-Murray and Delma Iles will present choreography to the the soulful sounds Marvin Gaye, poignant melodies of Yo Yo Ma, tradition of Scott Joplin, and the rhythmic percussive echo of the djembe drum.

Michelle Grant-Murray will present Party Blues, an Original work directed and choreographed by Grant-Murray with an original score composed by Mamadi Victory. Party Blues, features elements of contemporary movement and afro-fusion to examine the daily ritual of work and the endurance of everlasting love. Grant-Murray will also premiere Brown Sugar, a powerful and dynamic work which celebrates the strength, versatility and resilience of women in the urbanized rush for time and space.

Afua Hall, former Philadanco performer, is the featured Artist-In-Resident. Ms. Hall will delight and intrigue audiences with her provocative, riveting and organic choreographic style; fusing ballet, contemporary traditions of modern and movement from the African Diaspora.

The community is invited to attend the Artistry in Rhythm Fall Dance Concert on Friday, October 26 & Saturday, October 27 at the MDC Studio Theatre, Room M113, at Miami Dade College, Kendall Campus at 7:30pm. Chamber Singers & Womens Chorale


The Chamber Singers is the select choral ensemble of the Kendall Campus. Composed primarily of vocal majors, the group performs frequently both on campus as well as in the community. The Chamber Singers perform a wide variety of classical music with emphasis on the development of performance skills both as a choral singer and soloist.

The Miami Dade Women's Chorale is the only choral ensemble focused solely on women's literature. It provides students with the opportunity to study and perform a variety of choral literature representing a wide variety of styles, historical periods, and languages. The course equips students with the tools needed to develop good choral vocal technique and musicianship through a wide variety of oral, aural and written skills.

Come see the Chamber Singers and Womens Chorale perform on Wednesday, October 24th at 7:30 p.m. at the McCarthy Auditorium, Room 6120, at Miami Dade College, Kendall Campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Faculty Guitar Recital - Classical & Jazz


MDC will provide a unique opportunity for students and the general public to see some of the music department's finest and internationally acclaimed guitarist perform at the Kendall Campus. Such artist include classical guitarists Jose Adan, Juan Vera and Carlos Molina, and jazz guitarist Tom Lippincott, Mitch Farber and Sandy Poltarack featuring Matt Bonelli and Raphael Valencia on bass and Jack Ciano on drums.

This Is Our Youth - Theatrical Performance


Directed by Matthew Glass and written by Kenneth Lonergan, “This Is Our Youth” explores timeless issues of adolescence and maturity, as well as the Regan Era in which it takes place.

The performance will be held at the Studio Theatre located in M113, the Martin and Pat Fine Center for the Arts.

Performing Dates:
October 11, 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20th at 8:00 p.m.
October 14 and 21 at 2:00 p.m.

PG 15 - Some material may be inappropriate for children under 15.

The event is free and open to the public.

Joe Donato Jazz Concert



Joe Donato is more than a talented musician; he is a musician’s entertainer. His flair with the saxophone and many other reed instruments, as well as piano, percussion and vocals has taken him around the world as a performer throughout North / South America, the Caribbean, Europe and Japan. He is famous on the Miami musical scene and his unique style is well known to discriminating audiences from Key West to Palm Beach and beyond. Joe always gives a soulful and passionate performance.

Workshops with Jon Secada


Three-time Grammy award-winning artist Jon Secada joined the Miami Dade College teaching staff as a visiting professor at the Kendall Campus this fall. Jon Secada will host a variety of workshops this Fall to help prepare students for careers and/or advanced study in music.

The dynamic entertainer is no stranger to the College. Before his singing career took off, Secada was a voice and humanities professor in the music department at MDC’s North Campus from 1986-1991. Now that he’s returned to the College, Secada will provide instruction for the Kendall Campus’ music and commercial music departments. In addition to teaching in the classroom, he will provide students with formal coaching.

Carlos Oliva y Los Sobrinos del Juez


Carlos Oliva was born on a February 15th in one of Cuba's most beautiful cities, Sancti-Spiritus, province of Las Villas. Without a doubt, this Aquarian portrayed his musical talent at an early age, singing when he was just learning his first few words. As time went by and almost without realizing it, Carlos was playing congas, bongoes and drums, "jamming" with every orchestra that would perform in his hometown.
Carlos Oliva y Los Sobrinos del Juez Concert will be held on Wednesday, October 3rd at Noon at the Fred Shaw Plaza (outdoor pavilion) at Miami Dade College, Kendall Campus. The event is free and open to the public.
