Written by the Hispanic Shakespeare, Pedro Calderon de la Barca, and translated by Miami’s own Nilo Cruz, Life is a Dream explores illusion, reality, and what lies in between. King Basilio of Poland imprisoned his newborn son, Segismundo, because of an astrologica prediction that the child would grow up to be a rebellious tyrant. Segismundo has grown to manhood chained up in a tower, living like an animal with no human contact with anyone other than his watchman. The action begins when Segismundo makes real human contact for the first time.
